Mrs. Marietta D'Alessandro |
I’m excited about a new school year and learning with your middle school student. The sixth graders will cover topics that focus on ancient cultures and world religions; the seventh graders will return to U.S. History beginning with the American Revolution and work towards the civil war and Reconstruction while the eighth graders will start their year reviewing The Constitution including introductions to the Eleventh through Twenty Seventh Amendments and learn U.S. History from beyond the period of Reconstructions to as close to current time that we can accomplish. Junior Scholastic will be utilized to supplement learning in the sixth and seventh grades, and Upfront New York Times supplement will be used only by the eighth graders. All students can view up to date news events from their computers at home by watching the fast-paced CNN Student News found at www.cnn.com/studentnews. This is a ten-minute program geared to adolescents that’s filled with interesting facts in addition to national and global events. This particular news program will also be viewed in the classroom but not on a daily basis. Local, state, national and global current events will be completed throughout the year either using a newspaper or the Internet. Students will be assigned a specific category in which to summarize an article, cite their source, write their opinion on the article and submit both writing and article on loose leaf beginning sometime in September. Sixth graders will be completing their current events and CNN Student News during their computer research period alternating each topic; seventh and eighth graders will complete their summaries out of school. Music |
Mrs. Dane Ross |
All students have music class once a week. I don’t know who has more fun, them or me! It is my goal to have fun while learning. Grades 1, 2, and 4 will perform in the CHRISTMAS PROGRAM on December 15, 2009. Grades K, 3, and 5 will perform in the SPRING PROGRAM on March 16, 2010. There is a SCHOOL CHOIR made up of students in Grades 3-8. The members are selected after auditioning. This choir sings for all school masses and prayer services. The students in Grade 3 play the recorder. I remind the students that is takes a while before they sound like performers and suggest that they enter seclusion at home if they are practicing!!! |
